Volunteer with us

No boatbuilding background required.

Our volunteers arrive with all kinds of skills and experience. What connects us is a willingness to work together, learn from professional shipwrights, and help preserve Oyster Bay’s maritime heritage.

Projects can include hands-on boatbuilding and restoration, vessel maintenance, materials and tool organization, fundraising, events, and the many practical tasks that keep Building J active.

Workdays sometimes change, so please send a note before planning a first visit. If the doors are open, you are welcome to come in and see what is underway.
